작지만 아주 큰 폼페이 주택
NEW DISCOVERY IN POMPEII REVEALS EXQUISITE TINY HOUSE WITH FRESCOES
폼페이의 새로운 발견, 프레스코화가 있는 정교한 작은 집
폼페이 고고학자들이 고대 로마의 삶과 예술에 대한 통찰력을 제공하는 독특하고 화려하게 장식된 집을 근자 발견했다.
아테네 신화 속 여왕을 묘사한 프레스코화에 힘입어 '파에드라의 집House of Phaedra'으로 명명한 이 작은 주택은 신화적 장면이 담긴 잘 보존된 프레스코화를 놀랍도록 잘 보존한다.
전통적인 로마 주택과 달리 이 작은 집에는 서기 1세기 로마 건축에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 중앙 개방 공간인 아트리움atrium이 없어 폼페이의 진화하는 건축 양식을 강조한다.
작은 크기에도 작품 품질은 인근 크고 고급스러운 주택과 견줄 만하다.
폼페이 중심부에 위치한 이 집 벽은 파이드라와 사티로스의 님프인 히폴리투스, 그리고 아마도 신 비너스와 아도니스를 묘사할 생동감 넘치는 프레스코화로 장식한다.
섬세한 패턴과 자연 풍경은 시각적 풍부함을 더해 고대 로마 생활의 복잡한 예술성을 포착한다.
서기 79년 베수비오 산 폭발로 인해 묻힌 폼페이 유해는 시간이 멈춘 도시에 대한 새로운 이야기를 계속해서 공개한다.
