파미르, 원양을 항해한 마지막 범선

 
Pamir, a four-masted sailing ship built in 1905, was the last commercial vessel to round Cape Horn under sail in 1949 while carrying cargo.

Part of the famous Flying P-Liner fleet, she was active in the Australian grain trade, sailing from ports like Port Victoria to Europe.

Her 1949 journey marked the end of the windjammer era, as powered ships had fully replaced sail for ocean trade after that. 

1905년 건조된 파미르Pamir는 돛대 네 개를 갖춘 범선이었다. 

1949년 화물을 실은 이 배는 케이프혼Cape Horn을 항해한 마지막 상선이었다.

유명한 플라잉 P-라이너(Flying P-Liner) 함대 일원이던 파미르는 포트 빅토리아Port Victoria와 같은 항구들에서 유럽까지 항해하며 호주 곡물 무역에 적극적으로 참여했다.

1949년 파미르의 항해는 윈드재머 시대windjammer era의 종말을 의미했다. 

이후 동력선powered ships이 원양 무역ocean trade에서 돛을 완전히 대체했다.

장강 앞물은 장강 뒷물에 밀려나기 마련이다.

이를 신진대사라 한다. 

그의 퇴역은 한 시대 소임을 마감한 위대한 여정이었다.
